“The windows of my classroom faced the same crowded street where seventeen years ago I started out my career selling herring”.

The classroom is traditionally considered the primary setting for the school and the learning environment. The experiences between the teacher and their students are significant because children spend a lot of time at school. As a result, every student’s interaction and learning experience is heavily impacted by the teacher. The qualities that make a great teacher are high expectation, preparation and organization. Teachers are also expected to engage students and build relationships with them. Thus, the quality of education the child will receive is dependent on the quality and dedication of the teacher. Although these are some qualities that make the ideal teacher, Sara has other qualities that make her an asset to children’s education. Sara’s experience as a child living on Hester street is important in relating and making a connection to her students. Because Sara has likely had a similar upbringing to the students in the classroom. Sara’s relationship with the community will further develop the relationship with her students. The moment of Sara in her classroom reflects the growth of her career. She remembers that she once sold herring right outside the classroom and now, seventeen years later she is teaching inside of a classroom.
